The Ordination of Lori Ann Fuller
The Service
The ordination service was held at Christ the King Deaf Church, which is led by the Pastor Beth Lockard, who was the first Deaf pastor in the ELCA. Lori became the third Deaf pastor. Bishop Pedro Suarez from the Florida-Bahamas Synod presided at the ordination.
Also participating in the service were Pastor Gisele Berninghaus, Lori’s first Pastor from Wisconsin and both Pastor Michelle Lewis and Deacon Dorothy Sparks from Bread of Life Deaf Church in Minneapolis. Numerous other people the Christ the King Deaf Church and Word of Life Deaf Church in Lancaster, PA also played a part in the service.
Pastor Ruth Ulea
The second Deaf pastor in the ELCA is Pastor Ruth Ulea who leads Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria. She and her church also participated through a video they sent to support the service. Included here are both the full length version of the video and a shorter edited version that was shown during the worship service. Samual Dimas is also featured in the video, and he is currently a seminarian to become an ordained pastor in the near future.
